This Friday, November 8, Marfa Live Arts will have an evening full of great music, style, and poetry. It will be held at the Crowley Theater, and profits from the show will go toward helping the Marfa High School and Marfa Live Arts’ student playwriting in-school workshop, which will be held in February 2014.
Terry Allen, a country music singer from Texas, will serenade the audience with his music during the event. He has recorded eight albums over 25 years and has also worked together with David Byrne on the soundtrack of True Stories. Aside from being a great singer, he is also into painting and conceptual art.
Jo Harvey Allen, an American writer, actress, and artist, will showcase a few selections from her most recent books Home Run and Beautiful Waitress. During the 1970s, she had the opportunity to be one of the first performance artists who presented in cafes, art galleries, and museums in the US. She is also well-known for her excellent work in film and her one-woman plays.
Other artists to be featured will include Meliza Brandin, a drama coach, dance instructor, and professional stage actress in Lima, Peru, who has most recently been in Cinderella and Jesus Christ Superstar. Hudson Henry, Pop/Rock solo artist from Los Angeles, will also be performing. He just finished recording his new album New Eyes, which is about his near death experience due to illness. Lastly, Kate O’Toole will also showcase her acting skills. She has performed in different productions including Summer and Smoke. She also made an appearance in Channel 4’s Forgiven and in the first and third season of the Showtime series The Tudors. Her role as Eleanor in Rough Magic Theatre Company’s production of Terry Johnson’s Dead Funny has brought her to the Irish Times Theatre awards, where she was nominated for Best Actress. She brought home the Best Actress award from the Barclays/Arts Council Theatre Awards for her performance as B in the Three Tall Women.
